Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) and Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD) jointly organized launching ceremony of World Trade Directory: Bangladesh, Connecting the World at DCCI on 18 July, 2012. Hon'ble Commerce Minister Ghulam Muhammed Quader, M.P. was present as chief guest while Secretary of Ministry of Commerce Md. Ghulam Hussain was present as special guest.
DCCI President Asif Ibrahim in his address of welcome said that the World Trade Directory is designed to help business entrepreneurs and researchers to know about the trade and other economic information between Bangladesh and 176 countries of the world. He also said that this new world trade directory will enable the business community to be more involved with the economic development activities. He said that the directory will help customers and suppliers to connect each other globally and help tracking the right business partner, explore new markets and evaluating price trends.
Commerce Minister Ghulam Muhammed Quader, M.P. said that we have no option to lag behind while other countries are moving fast. He wished a success of the world trade directory and opined that it will help research as well as trade facilitation. He also said that designated officers or department should be established in the Tariff Commission to continuously upgrade the Directory. He stressed on increasing utility and dissemination of this directory. Regarding price spiral of essential commodities ahead of Ramadan the Minister informed that all Deputy Commissioners have already been instructed to monitor the market on a regular basis. He also called upon the businessmen not to increase price illogically.
Chairman of Bangladesh Tariff Commission Dr. Md. Mozibur Rahman gave introductory notes on the directory. He said that this directory is the largest trade directory in the world after CIA and ITC trade map. He informed that information related to trade and commerce are included in this directory which will smoothen the business correspondence of our entrepreneurs.
Commerce Secretary Ghulam Hussain said that information for conducting businesses in the international arena are incorporated in this directory.
Newly appointed Chairman of Bangladesh Tariff Commission Md. Shahab Ullah said that he will maintain the continuity of this resourceful directory for the grater interest of our business community.
Member of Bangladesh Tariff Commission Dr, Mostafa Abid Khan made a brief presentation on World Trade Directory: Bangladesh, Connecting the World. He highlighted that the objective of this directory is to provide macro-economic, trade and related basic information.
DCCI former Senior Vice Presidents MS Shekil Chowdhury, Al-hajj Abdus Salam, Co-convenors of DCCI MS Siddiqui, SM Zillur Rahman, CEO of BUILD Ferdaus Ara Begum, Dr. Ferdousi Begum of Ferdousi Biotech Ltd., took part in the open disussion session.
